Detective
Bureau
The Detective Bureau is responsible for the investigation
and prosecution of all felonies, thefts, frauds, burglaries,
check cases, aggravated assaults, and other misdemeanors that
require extended investigations. The investigation of a criminal
offense is one of the most critical police functions. The
detective's main objective is to gather information that will
successfully identify, apprehend, and prosecute a criminal
offender. The detective has to work closely with the patrol
division, and other agency's in order to be successful. The
Detective Bureau serves as the evidence officer for the Department,
as well as the liaison officer to the District and Superior
courts of Springfield.

Words of Wisdom:
- The duty of the police is to prevent crime and social
disorder.
- The power of the police to fulfill their duties is
dependent on their ability to secure and maintain public
respect.
- The police should strive to maintain a relationship
with the public so that, in reality, the police are the
people and the people are the police.
- The police must seek and preserve public favor, not
by pandering to public opinion, but by demonstrating absolute
impartial service.
- The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime
and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action
dealing with the problems.
