Patrol Division

The patrol division of the Police Department consists of fifteen patrolmen, four sergeants, one lieutenant and one captain.

Patrol officers are the most visible representative of the government and are the backbone of the department.

The patrol officer’s duties include but are not limited to:

  • Protecting lives and property.
  • Responding to calls for service.
  • Preventing criminal and delinquent behavior.
  • Repressing criminal and delinquent behavior.
  • Arresting offenders.
  • Identifying, apprehend and to assist with the facilitation of conviction of offenders.
  • Assisting with traffic flow and collision reduction.
  • Maintaining order and public peace.
  • Routinely patrolling and observing.
  • Preventing disruptions at public gatherings.
  • Performing various forms of community services.
  • Inspecting the security of businesses and other property.
  • Providing traffic directions
  • Providing information.
  • Developing contacts.
  • Conducting preliminary investigations.
  • Collecting and preserve evidence.
  • Writing accurate reports.

Although most police departments throughout the country have similar responsibilities, the Longmeadow Police Department officers are unique in their delivery of services. You will find these patrol officers to be empathetic and committed to the problem solving philosophy.

The patrol officer works a 4 and 2 schedule: four days on and two days off. Shifts are bid by seniority, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM and 12:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

In a town wide poll, the police department was selected as the #1 service provider in town. This is directly attributed to the patrol division and their professionalism.
